From jazz clubs to symphony halls to Sunday services, pianist Garrett Miller feels at home in a wide range of musical settings. He has experience as an accompanist for vocalists, instrumentalists, and choirs; performing with jazz quartets, leading worship services, and recording in studio environments.
An active jazz musician, Garrett performs throughout Cleveland and Chattanooga, Tennessee, both as a bandleader and sideman. He is a founding member of a wedding band called Knot Jazz. Deeply influenced by Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Clare Fischer, he continually explores new harmonic and melodic ideas while striving to serve the rhythm section with creativity and sensitivity.
As a classical pianist, Garrett won the 2025 Lee University Concerto and Aria Competition, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Lee Symphony Orchestra. He has participated in masterclasses with distinguished artists, including Sir Ian Hobson, Dr. Gloria Chien, and Dr. Yi-Yang Chen.
In addition to piano, Garrett has extensive experience as a trumpeter, having served as Principal Trumpet in both the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus and the Lee Symphony Orchestra. He also performs with the Premier Jazz Orchestra and occasionally subs with Off the Top, a Tower of Power tribute band.
A dedicated collaborator, Garrett has accompanied numerous vocal and instrumental studios at Lee University, the All-East Honor Choir, and both the Lee University and Southern Adventist University concerto competitions. In 2025, he performed with LeeU Worship for over ten thousand attendees at the Church of God Winterfest Youth Rally. His versatility on piano, Hammond B3, and synthesizers has also led him to perform with the Lee Singers and many churches throughout East Tennessee. Garrett finds deep joy in worship and in using his musical gifts to glorify God and uplift others.
Having spent most of his childhood in India, Garrett was immersed in diverse musical traditions and learned to play traditional percussion instruments such as the Dholak and Tabla. His experiences abroad have given him a broad appreciation for world music and the many ways cultures express meaning through sound.
